We are exhibiting artworks from our ‘A Room in Leeds’ project at Leeds City Museum from 24 September 24 until 5 January 25.

‘A Room in Leeds’ was an arts project conceived and delivered in partnership with five community groups across Leeds. The idea was to create to a room containing objects from people’s houses and art works reflecting people’s stories. The five groups taking part were:

  • OPAL (Older People’s Action in the Locality)
  • AVSED (supporting Aireborough seniors)
  • Aspire Community Benefit Society
  • Armley Helping Hands
  • The Skippko photography group

In addition, the project featured a performance group with participant and professional actors.

The individual groups explored the national obsession with tea, dolls houses, imaginative story telling with Dada-esque objects, animation and photography. The collection of all the objects provided the backdrop and props for a series of ‘sold-out’ performances in the Leeds Carriageworks Theatre.

This display at Leeds City Museum contains a selection of the artworks created over the six-months in Skippko’s Venue 50 located in Barkston House in Holbeck.

The project was funded by National Lottery Community Fund and Leeds Inspired.
