In the Frame
14/08/25

Skippko’s first ‘In the Frame’ salon event took place on 31 July 2025.
The event provided the opportunity for Skippko groups, individual participants and artists to share their talents during short presentations to an audience, in order to invite new perspectives on the work they are creating. ‘In the Frame’ was Directed by Anthony Haddon, with the support of artists Emma Baim and Rozi Fuller. We had a wonderful mix of poetry and song, performance, demonstrations and talks plus a game of ‘Top Stats’ created by the Skippko community research team. The people who shared their talents were Anthony, Emma, June, Irene, Jayne, Yvonne, Rozi, Jenni, Diane, Sarah Jane, Mary, Rachel, Jackie, Nicki and Sally. ‘In the Frame’ is part of Skippko’s 3 year programme ‘Home from Home’ funded by the National Lottery Community Fund.

More from the Performance and Making Club – Anthony, Emma, Irene, Jayne, June and Yvonne.
Diane is a performer and writer, after spending over 40 years in amateur dramatics she got her first professional gig working for Murder 57 and has been with them for the past 7 years. Just in case you were wondering, Murder 57 provides murder mysteries for evening events.
Jennifer read some of her poems. Jennifer began writing stories and poems 12 years ago and in that time has attended seven writing groups, her poems and stories have been published in four collections and Jenni is hoping to be self-published soon.
Next was Sarah-Jane Mason and Simon Turner from The Lacuna Studios to introduce their new residency project in Spain. Sarah-Jane is a creative practitioner, facilitator and educator and Simon is a land artist, jewellery maker and upcycler. Together they founded Lacuna Festivals, an annual, artist-led, contemporary arts festival which has led them to the founding of The Lacuna Studios.
Mary took up art in the 80s to relax. She worked for the NHS. She has attended many weekend, day and evening courses to improve skills and learnt from fellow art club members at the two clubs she attends, namely, Farsley Art Club and Horsforth Art Society. Mary shared one of her favourite mediums to use when drawing portraits from life.

Rachel is Learning Partner for the Home from Home Lottery project and has been working with Skippko for around 18 months.
In her spare time, Rachel is involved with a couple of community theatre groups, as an actor and director. She took the opportunity presented by In the Frame to vocalise something that has been simmering at the back of her mind to the front of it, if not quite yet to the boil. We were the first people ever to hear about her latest project!
Rozi told us about her work as an animator both in the UK and internationally. Rozi was presenting what, for her, is a new way of working… trying out Risography printmaking to combine it with animation using Augmented Reality. This was a new series of prints that is an ongoing project and In the Frame was the first time Rozi had shown this work to anyone.
Yvonne has been writing for 61 years since the age of 5… if you can do the maths, you’ll know her age. She was brought up in the care system so found it easier to write her feelings down rather than talk to the busy adults in the various children’s homes. She has performed on stage, on podcasts, YouTube and has had 2 books published and her work is included in various anthologies across the world. During In the Frame we heard two of her songs.
Here’s a short clip of one of those songs.

The poems that Jackie read were born out of upset and shock at the death of Peter, a dear friend and member of Under the Canopy. These are the first poems that Jackie has written, and we were the second audience to hear them… so here we met Jackie at the beginning of her journey as a writer and public performer.

Nicki has been a practicing artist for forty years using photography to find ways to tell stories, to give voice to people’s stories and in her words “to place that on the wall, to be heard, to be shared – is liberating and comforting..”
Followed by more from the Performance and Making Club…
And last but not least, Sally is a fine artist dabbling in all sorts of media, facilitating workshops here, there and everywhere. She’s happiest when slinging mud around in her studio and setting fire to pots in her garden! Sally demonstrated and talked about how to fire Raku Clay.
